oikos Winter School – Registration is open!
What is the oikos Winter School?
The oikos Winter School is an annual conference, which has been organized by students of the Witten/Herdecke University since 2007. Every year, participants from all over the world come together to give impulses for a more sustainable economy. The equal consideration of social, ecological and economic sustainability is of particular importance. This year’s confe- rence will take place in Witten from 15th to 22nd of March 2020. The conference is entitled “WORK in progress – development of work & its global consequences” and will focus on the sustainability of markets and the transformation of the world of work.
What do we want to achieve?
Our motivation is to analyse the consequences that will occur for the system of work from global developments like digitization and climate change. In an international comparison we want to figure out what possible risks and chances are, that arise with these developments and how we can participate in that process to make work fairer and more sustainable. As we will all be affected by these changes, we consider it as very important that young, interested and innovative students learn about these topics and evolve ideas and expertise.
How do we want to achieve that?
For the whole week we have invited several speakers who will give different impulses and ideas on the topic. The professionals will hold lectures, organize workshops and initiate dis- cussions concerning topics like the possible change of hierarchies in organizations and com- panies, work in the informal sector and mindful leadership.
All sessions will be interactive, and we want to animate all participants not only to learn with us but to bring in their personal ideas and experiences that they have from their home coun- tries.
What is characteristic for the oikos Winter School?
The oikos Winter School is especially unique because of its personal atmosphere which is created through a common exchange of information and the evolvement of ideas that will hopefully lead to interesting discussions and informative contents. The group usually has an accessible size which will make it easy for us to strengthen the teamspirit, get in touch and learn from each other throughout the week. Besides the professional impressions, we also want to find out in what part of our history or society the change of the working world alrea- dy took place and how we can learn from that. Since the town Witten finds itself directly in the Ruhr area, that change can be perfectly visualized, which is why we will offer a visit to the former coal mine “Zeche Zollverein”.
    What we will provide you:
We want to make your stay here as exciting and diversified as possible which is why we thought about a variety of activities that cohere with the topic of our conference. The per- sonal atmosphere is also displayed by the fact that you will live in the student’s apartments – we will basically take care of everything. All you have to do is to register now and be open for new contents and for a lot of networking with people from all kind of places with all kind of different backgrounds.

Is there a possibility to attend at this event online? As people "all over the world" come together, a big topic in academic work is travelling to conferences. I´m doing research for my master thesis about this topic and how much CO2 /equivalents it is producing. Maybe you can arrange a possibility to take part without beeing there...
